AUCKLAND TRACK NEWS

The course proper with the poles 45ft out was available for the final gallops at Ellerslie this morning in connection with the Takapuna meeting, which opens there on Saturday. The going was in first-class order and several smart efforts were recorded, the best being those of Kelly, Mazir, Royal Apellant, Prince Ven and Big Dook. On the course proper Speed went a fast half-mile in 53 l-ssec. High Star did the same in 52sec. Kilonsoa went five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec, a usef'.d effort, and she could have done better. Fleetwind finished in front of Huntingmore over half a mile in 51 3-ssec. Fleetwind worked well. Knight of Australia covered a mile in Imin 47 1-5 sec, the last seven furlongs taking Imin 32 4-ssec.

Kelly, accompanied by Tybalt, ran the fastest seven furlongs of the morning in Imin 31sec. Kelly’s effort was impressive. Horowhenua went half a mile in 52 4-ssec, running on solidly. Mazir was in front of Munpatoon over seven furlongs in Imin 31 3-ssec. Mazir covered a bit of extra ground and worked in good style. VaLspear and Student Prince wont five furlongs in Imin 4 2-ssec. Royal Appellant was holding Gay Broney (McTavish) at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18 3-ssec. This time was not bettered during the morning. Master Briefly and Round Up did a similar distance in Imin 21 4-sse?. Prince Ven hit out freely over five furlongs in Imin 3 3-ssec, a good effort, but he was making a distinct noise at the finish. Big Dook and Hunter’s Morn went a similar distance in Imin 3 4-ssec. After breakfast Lorita. Solo Song and Lady Gainscourt went half a mile tn

53 l-ssec. Shining Spear, Gigantic and All Irish finished as named over a mile in Imin 46 4-ssec, a useful workout. Other horses to do useful tasks were Backblock. the Hoariri filly. Chief Emerald, Armacourt, Lucidus and Scotland.
