PREPARING FOR ASHBURTON
Special to "The Timaru Herald." CHRISTCHURCH, November 26. Conditions were pleasant for woA at Riccarton this morning and the tracks were in good order. P. V. Mason worked his team early, giving them useful tasks the reverse way on the plough. All the subsequent galloping w T as on the outside of the trial grass track, which was fast. Chief interest attached to the horses engaged at Ashburton. Concertpitch, with Culotte as a mate for six, ran seven furlongs attra--tively in Imin 28 3-ssec, the last halfmile taking 51sec. Trench Fight and Paper Slipper were out, doing half-mile sprints, in view of holiday racing, while Custos and Vintage were others that strode along for a few furlongs. Bun Fight ran six furlongs in Imin 16 l-ssec. Day Dress accompanying her over the last half-mile in 50 l-ssec. Emissary did useful work on the sand.
Epic had Sunny Land as a companion for half a mile up the back in 51sec. Coxcomb covered a mile in Imin 43 3-ssec, Garonne joining in for the last five furlongs in Imin 5 4-ssec. McHeath just beat Dollar Bill over seven furlongs in Imin 29 l-ssec, the last four in 51 l-ssec.
Cyrillian dashed over half a mile up the back in 49sec.
Manetho did six furlongs in Imin 16 4-ssec, Pink Robe taking Imin 17sec.
Allspice beat Impact over half a mile in 50 4-ssec. Derive taking 49 4-sse:, after going very fast in the early part. Gresham and Polygraph pleased over half a mile in 49 2-ssec.
Landing occupied 54sec, without being hurried. Southdown ran six furlongs easily in Imin 18 l-ssec.
Convivial occupied Imin 30 3-ssec for seven furlongs, 50 3-ssec for the last half-mile.
Rebel Chief and Rose of Tralee were on terms at the end of six furlongs m Imin 17 3-ssec.
Pink Abbey and Back Lead sprinted half a mile in 50 4-ssec, The Duel going easily over the same ground in 52 2-ssec.
Cape Gabo and Gold Label ran six furlongs in Imin 16 3-ssec. Gaysome reeled off seven furlongs in Imin 29sec, the first three in 37 l-ssec. Owlsgleam and Oriental King showed up well in five furlongs in Imin 3 4-ssec.
Fiord moved attractively over half a mile in 50 l-ssec, after Shawlette and Weatherly had taken 51 4-ssec. Dark Rose beat Maka Ahi over seven furlongs in Imin 32 l-ssec. Acena started with them but tired in the run home.
