HEALTH CAMPS
RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION FOR INMATES Bv Telegraph—Pi ms Association CHRISTCHURCH, November 25. “If the Health Department takes over the health camps there will be a tendency for them to become pagan with no religious instruction at all.” said the Rev. John Chisholm in the Presbyterian General Assembly to-day. The Assembly was discussing the church’s desire to ensure religious teaching in childrens health camps. Members were disinclined, apart from their fears of Government control, to admit the value of co-operation witli other church denominations. Mr Chisholm said he doubted whether co-operation with other denominations could be achieved without disputes.” If we start with the others we will have the same trouble as there is with the Bible-in-schools.” he said. "There will only be quarrels and disputes.” He suggested that a recommendation of the Youth Committee proposing co-operation with the other churche- be amended to suit this view, and this was done. It was decided to urge Presbyterians l to try to secure adequate religious in- , struction for children in health camps.
