ILLNESS OF LORD CHANCELLOR British Official Wireless (Receved October 13, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, October 12. A statement issued regarding the illness of the Lord Chancellor (Lord Hailshad) states that he is making an excellent recovery, but he does not propose, for the present, to attend the meetings of Cabinet He expects to be able , resume his official duties in full at the end of the year. The Lord Chancellor’s place will be taken by the Lord Chief Justice (Lord Hewart) in the ceremony at the House of Lords when conveying his Majesty’s approval of the appointment of the new Lord Mayor of London (Sir George Broadbridge).
SLOWLY LOSING STRENGTH SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND ILL IN SWITZERLAND British Official Wireless (Received October 13, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, October 12. Reports from Zurich, where the Secretary for Scotland (Sir Godfrey Collins) has been ill in a nursing home, state that he is gradually losing strength.
