J. Mount joy, secrl tary of the Wellington Employe! Association, when the Conciliaticl Commissioner. Mr M. J. Reardon, wJ hearing the dispute brought by til Wellington Clerical Workers Union <1 Workers. Mr Mount joy contendel that Mr Nisbets application was a nej and separate citation and all the pen sons named in the application had nd signified their concurrence to bein named as applicants, therefore the ad plication was a misrepresentation J the true position and should be he’| invalid.
The commissioner held that the apH plication was valid and the hearinfl was adjourned until the afternooiH when Mr Mountjoy announced that hiH assessors were not prepared to tak« part in a Council which was not in accordance with the law. Mr Mount-1 joy, however, remained in the roonß while the Council proceeded to deal with the list of parties. The discussion on the wages rateJ was taken in committee and an ad-| jennment was made till Tuesday! morning. The parties are to meet m the meantime in order to have some definite proposal to submit to the Council when it resumes. The rates claimed by workers were as published in the reports of their proceedings on September 25 against the carriers, customs and forwarding agents and others. These ranged from 15/- to £l/5/- on commencing, rose to £4/10/- at the age of 21 and thereafter to £6/15/-; junior typists and shorthand typists rates £1 to £2/10/- after three years, at 21 £3/5/-, at 26 £4 for typists and £4/10/- for shorthand typists. The rates set out in the manufacturers’ counter application were junior males 15/- on commencement, rising by 4/- every half-year for three years, thereafter by 5/- until 21, adult males £4, junior females 15/- rising by 4/- every half-year for three years, thereafter by 2/6 until 21, adult females £2/2/6. The Employers Association proposals were juniors 15/- to £2 after four years, thereafter females £2/5/and males £2/10/- in the fifth year to £4 in the eighth year, thereafter £< 10/-.
