September 28 Miss Gloria Minoprio, a 25-year-old golfer, who uses only one club, a number one iron, won the first match in the English women’s championship at Hayling, beating Miss G. James, who
used the full set, wood and irons. 4-3. Miss Minoprio wore a blue trousered suit, and tight fitting jersey. She says she is convinced that a successful game can be built up with one club. The other first round winners were the title-holders, Mrs M. Garon, Misses W. Morgan. D. Fishwick. M. Barton, P. Wade, K. Garnham and B. Newell.
