ARUNDEL

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE A meeting of the committee of the Arundel Women’s Institute was held in the Howard Hall. Mrs Wooding presided. It was decided that instead of the usual meeting on October 6, a social evening be held on October 9. MINIATURE RIFLES The scores at the last shoot of the Miniature Rifle Club were:—E. Matheson 78, L. Johnston 78, A. McDonald 77, A. Lewis 77, M. Tavener 77, A. McCully 75, E. Bateman 73, J. McComb 73, G. Burrows 73, D. McSweeney 72, D. Baker 72, O. Keen 72, R. Phillips 70, J. Harris 69, D. Pratt 68, F. Stack 67, A. McFarlane 66, W. Johnston 66, J. Simpson 65. J. McComb was the winner of E. H. Logan’s trophy.

BENEFIT EVENING There was an excellent attendance at a euchre party and dance held by the Arundel Football Club in aid of Mr J. Stack, who was injured while playing football. Visitors were present from Rangitata Island, Rangitata, Ruapuna, Peel Forest and Orari. Prizewinners at the euchre were: Women, Miss F. McDonald 1, Mrs Anderson 2; men: Howard Edgar 1, D. McNab 2. At the conclusion of the euchre, Mr R. Johnston, on behalf of Mr Stack, thanked the public for the collection that had been made on his account. Mr Johnston said that the sum of £24 had been cleared, and he wished to thank Mrs Rose for giving a cake for a guessing competition, Messrs D. and B. Bates for presenting the euchre prizes and the Arundel Women’s Institute for a donation. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs Matheson and Messrs A. Pringle and A. Lewis. Mr A. Pratt was M.C. Mr P. Davis (Geraldine) was the winner of the cake. PERSONAL Miss D. Edwards, Coopers Creek, who has been attending the girls educational week in Timaru, has returned home.
