The Arab Higher Committee rejected King Ibn Saud’s advice to call off the strike. Lance-Corporal Merry, of the York and Lancashire Regiment, was killed in a skirmish with an armed Arab band near Rama, in Palestine, after the reports that the Arab Higher Committee was preparing a proclamation declaring its determination to continue the strike. More Vigorous Methods The first emergency reinforcements from England, numbering 1400 men. reached Haiea at 5 o’clock this morning. The announcement regarding martial law is expected this week-end.
