CORRESPONDENCE
REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY TEAM To the Editor of " The Timaru Herald " Sir,—ln your correspondence column of Wednesday, September 2 there was a letter dated from Waimate and signed “Sub-Union,” which, I think, might create a wrong impression. After full enquiries, I can most emphatically state that such letter was not written by any member of the Waimate Sub-Union, nor at the instigation of any Sub-Union official.—l am, etc, JNO. C. WINNING, President, Waimate Sub-Union. MR-HOLLAND AND THE MILK VENDORS’ ASSOCIATION To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald ” Sir,—ln your issue of Monday last an advertisement appeared in which it was stated that Mr Holland was no longer a member or secretary of the Milk Vendors’ Association, and that a new secretary had been appointed. I was asked to act as secretary until a permanent one could be appointed and agreed to do so. I was told distinctly that Mr Holland had resigned, otherwise I would never have agreed to the proposal. The position is that Mr Holland is still secretary to the Association as he assures me he has not tendered his resignation. I would be glad, sir, if you will publish this explanation as I consider some public reference is necessary in fairness to Mr Holland who has done good work for the Association.—l am, etc., CHAS. H. LENNON Timaru, September 2, 1936. UNEMPLOYMENT TAX To the Editor of *' The Timaru Herald ” Sir,—l have two dependents and was 66 last September. I am unable to work and my only income is from interest which is under £2 a week. Could you please tell me if I have to pay unemployment tax for the year ending 1936. I understand I was exempt from the amended law the past Government made, but I have just received notice to pay unemployment tax—l am, etc., PUZZLED. Timaru, August 31. (Under the Employment Promotion Act, 1936, every person of the age of 65 or upwards, whose income received from all sources during the 12 months immediately preceding the due date of any instalment, did not exceed £lO4, is exempted from that instalment. The same applies to the levy. “Puzzled” should now call at the Post Office and obtain a form for exemption from the levy—Editor of “The Timaru Herald.”)
