MINIATURE RIFLES

SOUTH CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE MEETS A meeting of the executive of the South Canterbury Miniature Rifle Association was held on Tuesday. Present—Messrs W. Best (president), R. A. Rodgers, T. Currie. G. A. McLean, V. J. Brehaut, W. Duncau, C. H. Rudge and A. Thoreau (secretary). The president extended the Association’s congratulations to Mr T. Currie on the West End Club’s win in the South Island championship and individual. “Herald” Shield Final Mr Best reported that as the four rounds of the “Herald” Shield had been completed and there were eight clubs to shoot off, he had made inquiries regarding the Drill Hall, where 10 targets could be erected and satisfactory arrangements could be made for lighting. If the executive approved the finals could be shot off on Saturday. It was agreed to fall in with the president's suggestion and to make arrangements for supper at a small charge. It was agreed to ask Mr E. G. Kerr, as representing the donors of the shield, to make the presentation at 10 p.m., and to invite the patrons and all enthusiasts to be present. It was agreed to have a trial shoot Possibles v. Probables for the representative match after the shield Anal. In regard to the representative match, Waimate suggested September 12, but the president thought this date would clash with other important fixtures, and replied that September 19 or 26 would be preferable. The president extended thanks to Messrs McLean and Rudge for drawing up rules for the various competitions, and thanks and appreciation was extended to Mrs Brehaut for her hospitality to the checkers. Mr Duncan suggested that the challenge shield be handed over to the Timaru Association and that rules be drawn up so as to make the competition more interesting. The executive agreed to accept the shield for next season. Rules The president stated that an up-to-date set of rules was required for the Association and he would like to see embodied in them the rules governing each competition. Members agreed with the president’s recommendation and in the meantime a rough draft is to be complied for each club's prrusal so that any alterations or conditions can be forwarded to the executive. The question of substitutes was gone into, and it was agreed that no substitutes be allowed in the final except with the consent of the executive. PLEASANT POINT CLUB The nineteenth official shoot of the Pleasant Point Miniature Rifle Club was fired on Monday evening. W. T. Taylor with 79 off the rifle won the Wilson gold bullet. E. Chapman with 78, 78, 78 won the weekly trophy and B:wman button, A. Thoreau being runner-up with 78, 77, 75. Scores were:—W. T. Taylor 79, R. G. Blakemore 78, H. D. Roberts 78, K. Hammond 78, E. Fleming 1070.

TIMARU CLUB The weekly shoot of the Timaru Miniature Rifle Club was held on Tuesday evening. A. Agnew, won the silver rifle for No. 16 match with 79 off the rifle. Three members tied for the weekly trophy, and under the graduated test H. Plait was adjudged the winner. The best scores off the rifle were:—A. Agnew 79. F. Cross 77, W. Duncan 76, R. Holland 76, W.
