national meeting OFFICIALS APPOINTED By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, August 31. The New Zealand Boxing Council has appointed the following officers to act at the national amateur boxing championships at Wellington on Friday, Saturday and Monday—Referees, Messrs E. Stewart (Wellington), J. D. Hutchinson (Christchurch), and H. D. Johnston (Ashburton). Judges, Messrs R. Rugg (Auckland), P. W. Woods (Wellington), E. T. Simon (Hawera). W. E. Mouldey (Christchurch), G. J. Sceats (Oamaru), W. Gellately (Invercargill) .

PROFESSIONAL CONTEST By Telegraph Press Association ROTORUA, August 31. In a 15-round professional lightweight boxing contest on Saturday night, Ralph Aitken (Wellington), defeated Bobby Delaney (Australia) on points. Delaney did most of the leading, but Aitken’s defence was particularly sound and enabled him to win on his opponent’s mistakes.

WORK-OUT OR TIMARU LIGHTWEIGHT

A work-out, principally for Doug Eddington, who will represent South Canterbury in the lightweight division at the New Zealand boxing championships, and who leaves to-morrow for Wellington, was held at Mills’s gymnasium last night. The boxing and wrestling bouts warranted more public interest, clever work from several promising lads being witnessed. Eddington, who was suffering from a heavy cold, impressed with his speed, and it is hoped that he will prove a worthy representative at the championships.
