DAIRY MANAGER FINED
WRONG GRADE ASSIGNED TO MILK BY Teleyrnnh — Pres« Association NEW PLYMOUTH, August 24. Charged with knowingly assigning to a milk supply a grade other than the true grade, Patrick Phillip Jenkins, manager of tfie Newall Dairy Co., was fined £4 with costs £3 13s in the Magistrates Court to-day. The charge was laid by William Crawford, of the Department of Agriculture. It was explained that it was the duty of the manager to enter the grade of the milk on sheets showing the weight of milk supplies by each supplier. This Jenkins had omitted to do for three months. When inquiries were made Jenkins made returis to the Department, but these did not coincide with the returns made to the secretary of the company. Jenkins gave as his reason for failure to make returns the fear that if he made correct returns there would be trouble amongst the suppliers. It was stated that this was the first prosecution of the kind in the district. The Magistrate said that there did not appear to be any criminal intention, but it was the manager’s duty to be strong enough to act without fear of the suppliers’ reaction.
