ST. ANDREWS

GIFT EVENING A kitchen evening was held in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Hall in honour of Miss Muriel Rogers and Mr Walter Tooley. Items were contributed by the following: Mrs Turpie (song), Miss Eileen Glassey (recitation), Miss Chris Turpie (song), Mr J. Turpie (violin solo), and Miss Grace Pooke (song with guitar accompaniment). Mrs Pooke acted as accompanist. Many enjoyable games and competitions were played. Those successful in gaining prizes were Mrs Bustard, Misses Jessie Kennedy and Peggy Hoskin, and Messrs Colin Kennedy, Jim Russell and Robert Hutton. After supper had been handed round the Rev. J. M. Paterson and Messrs Annett, C. H. S. Johnston and D. G. Lyall all spoke of the high esteem in which Miss Rogers and Mr Tooley were held, and wished them good luck in the future. Miss Carol Bell presented Miss Rogers with a crystal vase on behalf of the Senior Bible Class. The guests of the evening received many useful gifts, and as they rose to open them they were accorded musical honours. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs Andrew Grigor and Master John Grigor, Tawai, are the guests of Mrs E. J. Dash. Miss Amy, Dash, Christchurch, is spending a holiday at St. Andrews. Mr D. Bruce has left for the south, where he will spend the school vocation. Miss Dorothy Knox left for Ashburton on Friday. Miss May Porter, Lyalldale, is spending a holiday in the south.
