Mr Noel Kennedy, of Dunedin, is spending a holiday in Timaru. Messrs V. Neilson (Dunedin) and V. G. Hill (Christchurch) are staying at the Grand. Mr J. Thomson (Peshawar, India) is visiting Timaru and is staying at the Grosvenor. Mr F. V. Brown (Sydney) is a guest at the Empire. Messrs W. H. Hodge (Wellington), A. F. Burley (Christchurch), R. Robertson (Oamaru), A. Tosh and R. A. Stirling (Invercargill) are guests at the Balmoral. Messrs E. L. Frye, W. E. Turley, A. Cleland (Christchurch), F. C. Holmes, W. S. Hill (Wellington), and G. A. Renton (Auckland) are registered at the Dominion. Mr L. J. Stevens, of Auckland, a director of the Dominion Fertiliser Company, left by the British Phosphate Commission’s steamer Triaster for Nauru and Ocean Island. Mr Stevens is the guest of the British Phosphate Commission. Messrs H. H. Osborne, A. Andrews, F. Smith, R. D. Halstead (Dunedin), G. Harrison, K. Royds, H. Royds (Christchurch), H. R. Evans (Wellington) and 'D. C. Hunt (Oamaru) are registered at the Grosvenor. Mr Charles P. P. Whatman, B.Agr., Sc., of the Education Department’s correspondence school, Wellington, has been appointed to succeed Mr D. A. Campbell as agricultural master of the Rangiora High School. Recent guests at the Empire include: Messrs J. McLeod, R. Russell (Greymouth), G. W. Parsons, R. Moffat, C. F. Barnett (Christchurch), B. H. Hood, L. McKene, W. Wetherwood, C. Beaumont, J. Liddicoate, B. Marshall (Dunedin), W. Littlewood (Auckland), and C. Heath (Wellington). Mr A. F. Excell, manager of the Hawera branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia for the last two years, has been transferred to Gisborne, and will be succeeded by Mr A. B. Dalton, of Westport. Mr Excell went to Hawera from Oamaru, and succeeded Mr E. R. S. Dale, who was transferred to Napier. After serving a period of 48 years in the teaching profession, Mr W. J. Wernham, headmaster of the Northcote District High School, will retire on September 6 on superannuation. He occupies the top position on the Dominion’s grading list of public school teachers.
