SCOUTING NEWS OF INTEREST

WOOD B.Wi STUDIES Scouters are advised to make a start on the third section of their wood badge study. The third part has to reach Dominion Headquarters by September 22. and although studies can be accepted a few days late it is not a good policy to bank on that, but it is wiser to make a start now, and do. say one question each week, and then there will be co big rush at the end. NEWS OF MR SALMON During his short stay in Melbourne Mr W. G. Salmon, who is on his way to England, met Mr C. E. Mann, a Rover

Scout Leader and Cubmaster, and had the pleasure of dining with him and having a good talk on Scoutlhg matters. Mr Mann is one of the Scouters with w’hich “Sahi” corresponds, having met him on several occasions at the Melbourne Scout Jamboree in 1934-35. It was at the end of the week when Mr Salmon arrived in Melbourne and therefore he did not have the opportunity of visiting any of the Melbourne Scout Troops but in his letter he states that Scouting is “going ahead” there.

AMBULANCE WORK

Now that the ambulance examination is over, many scouts will think that they have had enough ambulance work for a while, but this is wrong. Those who went for the badge are well up in this kind of work and should now concentrate on making themselves more proficient, remembering that the object in going for a proficiency badge is not just to know the subject at the time of the examination, but to have a fair knowledge of it all the time. If patrol leaders could only remember this and put this into practice there would be less “swotting” for badges of this kind which have to be passed annually. Also

now that each troop has more scouts with the ambulance badge on their arms the standard of first and second class ambulance should improve as there is now more boys to teach the younger boys who are coming on. WELLINGTON "NEWS It is pleasing te know that the Island Bay Scout Group staged a very successful concert in the Masonic Hall recently. It can be honestly said that not one of the items were dull and from remarks made after the concert it seems if the public were astonished at the standard attained by the group. The play put on by the rovers was so much appreciated that they have been asked to present it again. Well done. Island Bay.
