CONFUSION AT BRISBANE SHOW United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright BRISBANE, August 20. Wild confusion occurred at the gates of the Royal National Showground, when the outgoing stream of about 50,000 spectators met thousands of persons entering the grounds for the night session. A terrific jam occurred. Women screamed and fainted. One woman, caught in the thick of the crush, collapsed and died. Sailors from the visiting warships and the police were unable to clear a passageway until the pressure had been eased by thousands escaping into the streets.
