AMUSEMENTS

"I DREAM TOO MUCH LILY PON'S FINE SINGING In “I Dream Too Much,” now at the State Theatre, Lily Pons, the French coloratura, reveals herself not only as a singer, but also as a superb actress and a natural comedienne. Vocally and physically, she is a perfect subject for the talking film and writers in all parts of Europe and America have predicted for her a brilliant future. Her captivating personality, her petite figure and the charming way in which she carries herself should assure her instant success. Most attention overseas seems to have been attracted by Miss Pon’s singing of “Caro Nome.” “Show Them No Mercy’’ Violence, intense emotional drama, spontaneous humour and romance are tightly packed in “Show Them No Mercy” which comes to the State tomorrow. It reveals the new underworld terror in America’s fight to wipe it out. The plot of “Show Them No Mercy!” carries Rochelle Hudson and Edward Norris, two innocent young people with their baby, into the hideout of the gang. The criminals have 200,000 dollars in “hot money,” and are waiting for the hue and cry to die down. Panicky, afraid that the youngsters will disclose their refuge, the gangsters are all for putting them out of the way. Through a series of exciting scenes, the picture reveals how the well-laid plans of the Department of Justice draws the net tighter and tighter about them, until the mobsters flee, leaving one of their number behind.
