WAIMATE RACES

That racing maintains its ardent devotees was exemplified on Saturday when Waimate held its hunt meeting. In these days, distance is a neligible quantity and many folk were In evidence from up and down the coast. There was a general happy and sporting spirit abroad. The day was fine but overcast, yet it was just as perfect as one could wish for. It had produced a host of trim tailored tweeds—checked and plain with attractive little hats. Brown again was the most favoured colour from rust tones to deepest mahogany, chocolate and nut. Many shades of blue were favoured and the tailored suits and ensembles in its tone were very smart and becoming for the wearers. Among those present were:— Mrs Neil Rattray, wife of the Master of Waimate Hunt, smart fawn and brown tailored suit of English worsted in broken check design, dark brown felt hat. Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone, stone-grey cloth coat, furred deep collar of fox, grey felt hat, and a frock of absinthe green tone. Lady Young, forest green English tweed costume, green velour hat. Mrs A. S. Elworthy, dark brown and beige threequarter ensemble of check tweed, French tarn shaped hat of velvet. Mrs T. R. Rhodes, navy blue coat, shovel brimmed hat. Mrs C. C. Douglas, Egyptian rust suit and velour hat. Mrs H. B. L. Johnstone, suit of pewter grey tweed, checked in blue with jumper and hat of lido blue. Mrs H. Sinclair-Thomson, tailored suit of date brown plaid tweed velvet, French beret. Mrs E. C. Studholme, black cloth costume with fine stripe of white, flat French beret shaped hat of velvet. Mrs Maurice Harper, light navy blue suit and velour hat. Mrs C. L. Orbell, brown costume, pink blouse and quill in brown hat. Mr W. H. Orbell, brown cloth coat, fur collar and brown hat with fawn band. Mrs J. C. Templer, cinnamon brown tweed costume and brown velour hat. Mrs F. L. Barker, light navy blue knop boucle wool coat and velour hat. Mrs G. R. Kingston, black cloth coat, astrakan trimmings and black hat. Mrs J. D. Ste Wart, diagonal tweed of blue and fawn, wide blue felt. Mrs John Sherris, green and fawn check suit, fawn velvet hat. Mrs E. Soloman (Palmerston), tabac brown fine tweed costume and felt hat.
