OBITUARY

MR W. FISHER By Telegraph—Pres? Association CARTERTON, July 18. The death took place this afternoon of Mr William Fisher, Mayor of Carterton for the last 13 years, aged 87. He was also chairman of the Wairarapa Hospital Board and last month W"- elected for a further term. He attended meetings in Wellington and Hastings a fortnight ago at which he caught a cold which turned to bronchitis and the latter affected his heart. He was very closely associated with the dairy industry in the Wairarapa for many years, and was chairman of the Taratahi Dairy Company. MR W. M. LUXFORD By Telegraph-Press Association WANGANUI, July 19. The death occurred suddenly this afternoon of a well-known Wanganui businessman, Mr W. M. Luxford, who collapsed while presiding at the celebrations In connection with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mr Luxford was a member of the City Council for 10 years but retired six years ago. He was a prominent rifle shot and for many years was president of the Wanganui Defence Rifle Club. The death has occurred of Mr George Black, for many years identified with the political life of New South Wales. He was a foundation member of the Labour movement and also a journalist in the earliest newspapers. He was 83 years of age.
