There was good Home and Continental competition at the wool sales, the fourth series of which opened with an offering of 8496 bales, including 3493 bales of New Zealand; 7060 bales were sold. There was good competition from the Home trade and the Continent, and a good clearance was effected. Merinos and fine greasy crossbreds were 5 per cent, lower and other crossbreds were unchanged compared with the closing prices of the last series. According to the official review of the wool season issued by the National Council of Woolselling Brokers of Australia, the Australian clip for 193536 realised £49,1&0,537. Effect of Japanese Boycott The brokers’ review discloses that the average price of wool in May and June, during the Japanese boycott, fell to ll.lld and 10.74 d per lb respectively, compared with 14.01 d ruling before the boycott, but for which the price level would probably have recovered to th J 1933-34 level of 15.84 d.
