Liner Building at Belfast A BUI has been Introduced in the Northern Ireland House of Commons authorising the extension of the maximum limit of the guarantees under the
Loans Guarantee Acts from £13,000,000 to £14,500,000, because of the new ship construction to be undertaken. The Minister of Commerce, who moved the money resolution, said that since 1931 assisted by the Government’s credit accommodation, new ship construction programmes of great magnitude in Belfast had been facilitated. Foremost among the big orders were those of the Union Castle Company, and the resolution now proposed was, in fact, necessitated by an extension in the large building programme of that company. The extension of limit for guarantees was necessary so that the Government would not be debarred from continuing its present policy. It provided a reasonable margin for the future, as substantial repayments might be expected at no distant date.
