Extra prime heavy ewes brought to 33/-, heavy 26/- to 29/-, medium 22/to 24/- and light 15/- to 19/-. The entry of 194 fat pigs was in excess of butchers’ requirements. The drop in values for baconers was only slight, but it was more noticeable in the case of porkers, especially towards the end when it reached 5/- a head. There were only 29 stores penned and these brought satisfactory rates, up to 16/- being obtained for good pigs. ADDINGTON MARKET MUTTON VERY DEAR By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, July 8. The feature of the Addington market to-day was the sharp advance in fat sheep prices, ranging from 4/- to 6/a head. The entry was a small one for the second successive sale, and butchers had scarcely enough for their requirements. Best wethers sold from 38/- to 45/-, good 34/- to 34/6, prime medium weight 29/- to 33/- and light down to 25/-. Best ewes made 33/to 42/-, good 30/- to 33/-, prime medium 26/- to 29/-, and ordinary down to 20/-. Store Ewes.—There was a small entry and a very keen sale with an advance of up to 2/6 for good f.m. and guaranteed ewes, 1/- to 1/6 for ewe hoggets and 1/- for wether hoggets. Only one pen of adult wether hoggets was offered. Fat Cattle.—There was a large entry 0f'485. The sale was not so buoyant as last week, prime steers being a shade easier and medium classes of cattle about 10/- cheaper. Heavy cattle made to £l4/2/6, prime £lO/15/to £l2/10/-, prime medium weight £9/5/- to £lO/15/- and light and ordinary from £5/10/- to £B/10/-. Best heifer lines averaged £lO/12/6 and the bulk of the serviceable pens from £8 to £9/10/-. The best of the cows sold at £7/10/- to £9/10/-. Fat pigs met with r. slightly better sale. Choppers sold at up to £6/1/-, baconers 54/6 to £4/11/6 (average price per lb 51d to 6d) and porkers 31/6 to 47/6 (average per lb 55d to 6d). PRODUCE MARKETS SOUTH CANTERBURY Small parcels of milling wheat are still coming on the market and are being accepted mainly for shipping, but there has been an odd local inquiry. The present quotations are: Tuscan 4/9, Hunters 4/11, and Velvet 5/1. There is practically no demand for fowl wheat, and it would appear that the Importation of Australian barley is having an effect on this market. The nominal quotation is 3/8 a bushel on trucks for grade whole fowl wheat, and 3/- on trucks for undergrade. The market is oversupplied, and there are also consignments to draw on. Oats.—There has been a good demand for both A and B Gartons. A’s are worth 2/8 on trucks and B’s 2/5. There is no demand for Algerians, the nominal quotation for which is 2/- on trucks. A majority of dark Duns seem to have been cleaned up, but any that are available are meeting with a ready sale at 3/3 to 3/4 on trucks. Peas.—No. 1 partridge peas are worth 4/10 a bushel on trucks. There has been an odd demand, but as Timaru is not a main port for shipments required, the market is going to Lyttelton and Dunedin. Chaff.—Good bright oatsheaf is worth £3/5/- on trucks, and there has been a good demand. Potatoes.—Owing to heavy consignments going to the North Island, the market has dropped back, and until consignments are stopped, potatoes are likely to go even still lower than they are at present. Nominal quotations are £3/15/- for Suttons and Dakotas and £3/10/- for whites. Seeds.—The Inquiry during the week has entirely disappeared, and there is no demand for any lines. THE CURRENCIES. United Press Association—By Klectrlc Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, July 7. Currency quotations are: Dollar, 5.021 to the pound; franc, 758 to the pound.
