DRAMA LEAGUE
ARRANGEMENTS FOR JUNIOR FESTIVAL Arrangements for the forthcoming junior drama festival were made at a meeting of the Executive of the South Canterbury branch of the Drama League at a meeting last night. Present: Dr. W. H. Unwin (chairman), Mrs T. E. Holdgate, Miss C. B. Mills, Messrs A. E. Lawrence, W. G. Tweedy, G. H. R. Ulrich and P. W. Donaldson. Mr Tweedy considered that the prospects for the junior festival —the first of its kind in South Canterbury—were very bright. It was anticipated that at least 12 teams would be represented and three sessions would probably be necessary. It was agreed to hold the festival on July 16 and 17, and if necessary on July 18, each session to be in the evening. The Timaru Readers were thanked
for the gift of books to the League’s library. It was decided to ask Mr C. H. Morris, of Wellington to act as judge of the written original one-act play competition again this year. The secretary (Mr H. L. Warsaw) reported that two further replies had been received to the League’s circular inviting an expression of opinion regarding a proposal to Institute A and B grade sections at the main festival Up to the present four clubs favoured the B grade being included, three considered that the festival should be run as usual and two were neutral. The meeting decided not to consider the grading of teams this year.
