STAFF BALL

A brightly lit dance hall, spirited music and an excellent floor made the first annual ball of Macfarlane and Co., Ltd. a very enjoyable one. The function, which took place last night in the Bay Tea Rooms, gaily decorated with blue and white streamers and coloured Chinese lanterns, was voted a great success. The committee included Mr and Mrs A. Hattie, Mr and Mrs F. R. Deans, Miss Isobel Hattie, Messrs J. Duggan, W. Hitches, and J. G. Jowsey who acted as M.C. Mrs Hattie wore a frock of Gloucester green georgette relieved with silver lame. Mrs Deans wore a frock of cherry red embossed georgette and Miss Hattie wore a frock of leaf green satin.

The guests of honour were Mr E. F. Thompson of the Christchurch firm and Mrs Thompson and Miss Maldie Thompson, Mr A. Hattie, manager of the Timaru branch and Mrs Hattie. Mrs Thompson wore a frock of resida green ring velvet relieved with gold lame and a shoulder spray of yellow flowers. Miss Maldie Thompson wore a frock of red and white check taffeta.

Those present included Mr and Mrs J. Atherton, Mr and Mts H. Smith. Mr and Mrs T. Atherton, Mr and Mrs B. Smith, Mr and Mrs Parfoot, Mr and Mrs Bosher, Mr and Mrs H. W. Mercer, Mr and Mrs J. Grover, Mr and Mrs H. Allchurch, Mr and Mrs Willis, Mr and Mrs McConachie, Mr and Mrs Gardiner, Mrs E. Stoddart, Mrs Crisp, Mrs R. P. Murphy (Waimate), Mrs P. Davey, Mrs D. Hutchen, Mrs Dephoff, Mrs J. Hill.
