DRUNKEN DRIVER

LICENSE CANCELLED By Telegraph—Press Association GISBORNE, June 15. A hit and run driver, who ran into a girl cyclist, appeared before Mr Walton, S.M., this morning, and was fined a total of £l5 and his license was cancelled for 12 months. Accused was a Maori, Osborne Hura, who pleaded guilty. Detective McWhirter stated that the speed of accused’s car was described as “terrific,” while a friend who had been in town with him on the day of the accident said the accused was so intoxicated that he prevented him from using his car until later in the day.

Counsel said the accused's recollection of the incident was very vague, although he remembered hitting something.
