BIGGEST PAY DAY

AMERICA HONOURS BONUS TO VETERANS United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 15, 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 14 The biggest pay-day in the Government’s history took place to-day, when postmen delivered the baby bonds, aggregating 1,650,000,000 dollars to 3,000,000 Great War veterans. There were celebrations by veterans’ associations throughout the nation, to mark the greatest event of its kind in the history of the United States. The police were ready for the swift prosecution of confidence men and other get-rich-quick tale spinners. Armed National Guardsmen were mobilised for any emergency. As a result of the huge deliveries, a wave of buying, and consequent trade pickings are expected.
