PROTEST UPHELD By Telegraph—PresF Association HASTINGS, June 15. Arising out of a protest concerning the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s winter handicap, run on Thursday, the stipendiary stewards made the following report: “A protest entered by G. Neich, owner of Contract, who ran second, against H. G. Hawkins, the owner of Stitchbird, the winner, on the grounds that the horse was cared for and trained by H. O. Barnett, was dealt with by the judicial committee. After hearing evidence the committee found: (1) That a breach of rules 146 and 142 had been committed, in that a person wno was not eligible was employed in the care, control and training of Stitchbird; (2) That by Rule 144 (1), Stitchbird be disqualified for the race, and the judge's platings be altered, Contract to be placed first, Sunder second, and Bothwell third.”
