Messrs F. Petrie, J. Bennett (Dunedin), and C. S. Masters (Christchurch) are staying at the Empire.
The appointment of Mr A. H. Allen to act as Consul for Belgium at Dunedin is gazetted.
Dr. Hugh Widdowson, of Christchurch, has been appointed medical superintendent of Wanganui Hospital, in succession to Dr. A. D. Nelson.
Included in the guests at the Dominion are Messrs E. Bateman, A. Ray (Christchurch) and P. Kelland (Omarama).
Guests at the Royal include: Messrs P. Dunlop, Somerville, Stuart (Dunedin), J. Valentine (Cave), W. McHardy and J. Nixon (Christchurch).
Mr E. L. B. Pemberton, Orarl, is leaving to-day for the North Island, where he intends taking up farming near Feilding.
Mr George Hogg, who has been on the engineering staff of the Lower Hutt Borough Council for some years, has been appointed assistant engineer to the Westport Borough Council.
According to the Gazette Messrs James Hutton and Seton Fulton Marshall have been appointed as producers’ representatives on the New Zealand Poultry Board.
Guests at the Grosvenor include: Messrs L. Frude, J. H. McCorklndale (Dunedin), B. N. Murphy (Auckland), A. F. Sutherland, J. Daniels (Wellington) and C. N. Hamilton (Christchurch).
Mr A. C. Zohrab, M.A., of Palmerston North Boys’ High School, has been appointed senior English master at Whangarei High School in place of Mr D. A. Bird, who will leave soon to take a position with the Ashburton High School.
Mr P. Watts Rule has received advice that he has been awarded an Honourable Mention for his bookplate design for the Boys’ High School Memorial Library, which was exhibited at the annual exhibition of the Bookplate Association International held in Los Angeles, at which exhibition are shown bookplates from all over the world.
The Rev. L. H. Hunt, on account of sickness, has resigned the charge of the Karori Presbyterian Church, and his resignation was received with regret by the Wellington Presbytery. Mr Hunt lias been
minister of the Karori Presbyterian Church for the last three years. It was stated that Mr Hunt would probably be able to resume the ministry in 12 months’ time.
Dr. N. L. Edson, formerly of Auckland, who has been doing post-graduate work in bio-chemistry at Cambridge University, lias been approved for the degree of doctor of philosophy in that subject. Dr. Edson, who is the son of Mrs Edson and the late Mr N. P. Edson, is an old boy of the Auckland Grammar School, and graduated M. 8., Ch.B. and B.Med.Sc. at Otago University, where he was a lecturer in the physiological department of the Medical School before leaving for England.
