NATURE’S TOOTH BRUSH

“KEEP THE INCHES AWAY” Mother Eve was the first Nature doctor as well as the first beauty specialist, writes Dr Estelle Cole in the London “Daily Telegraph.” The old-time name of the apple was “Nature’s blue pill.” To-day it is considered to be Nature’s toothbrush, particularly for children. Scandinavian lore represented the apple as the food of the gods, who, when they felt themselves growing feeble and infirm, fled to its recuperative powers. Eaten daily, not only do apples hinder the visits of the doctor, but they “keep the inches away.” they are great reducers. An apple diet for three days, to the exclusion of any other food, is one which is most effectual. Weigh yourself and take note of the weight before diet!- Then consume as many apples as desired and nothing else for three consecutive days. Drink as little as possible during this time. Alcohol in any form is taboo. The best plan is to take a holiday in bed for three days. If this is not possible, then spend a long morning in bed and rise after the apple lunch. No vigorous exercise should be taken. Get the fresh air by a short car drive or a little meander. Any hunger must be appeased by an apple. At the end of three days weigh yourself once more to find out how much has been lost. This treatment must be continued once a week as an apple day till such time as the reduction is sufficient. Always note the loss of weight during reduction for reference. The next point is important. When returning to the ordinary diet begin with small meals and increase the food gradually. Keep off all starches and eat brown bread for choice. Common sense is needed to eschew the fattening foods. This method of reducing is an agreeable one and does not entail much self-sacrifice.

Apples are a tonic, as well as a beauty food. Acting as antlaclds, they are a great aid to helping the rheumatic sufferer. Further, they contain iron; so that they tone up the general system and Improve the complexion. Since the hair needs iron to enhance its colour and lustre and to keep greyness at bay, the apple becomes and advantageous food to the hair-cells. For those who are plump, it is necessary to restrict intake of food; apples prove a thirst-quencher. In fact, the buxom should find much of their fluid in the fruit they eat. for fruit contains a large percentage of water. Springtime is a good season for indulging in fruit diets, which clear the system of impurities after the heavy foods of the winter.
