FOOTBALL CLUB AFFAIRS SEVEN A-SIDE TOURNEYS The weekly meeting of the committee of the. Geraldine Football Club on Tuesday evening was attended by the president (Mr W. H. Jackson) and Messrs D. McKay. J. D. McKechnie, A. N. Loach, E. J. Wood, F. Sherratt, P. Callanan and W. McCullough (hon. secretary). Donations from Messrs A. B. Haywood and J. Fifield were received with thanks. Mr J. D. McKechnie was elected a member of the committee. The bank balance disclosed a credit of £7/6/6. It was decided to enter a senior team, two fourth grade and a third grade team in the South Canterbury Rugby Union’s seven-a-side tournament at Timaru on the King’s Birthday. The president referred to the interesting and profitable blackboard lecture on tactics by Mr S. H. Sullivan, of Timaru, which had attracted a crowded attendance. The subsequent practice, in which Messrs G. Adkins, G. King and the club’s coach, Mr A. Provan, had taken part, had also been most profitable. A splendid practice, under Mr Provan, had also been held last Saturday afternoon. On the motion of Messrs E. J. Wood and P. Callanan, it was decided that the club apply to the South Canterbury Rugby Union for a date for the annual Geraldine seven a-side tournament. Mr D. McKay suggested that all the members of the club should meet in order to have a thorough discussion on the rules of Rugby, and it was decided to hold a lecture next Thursday. Teams for Saturday will be as follow: Senior (v. Celtic, at Fraser Park No. 2)—R. Worner, P. McShane, C. Vial, A. Morris, E. Wood, H. Ford, Alan Morris, F. Bennett, J. Barnett, A. Vincent, W. BASKETBALL CLUB A decision to install electric light for evening practices at the asphalt courts at the Domain was made by the com: ilttee of the Geraldine Basketball Club at the weekly meeting on Tuesday evening. The president (Mr D. C. McKechnie) occupied the chair. The president reported that the cost of erecting a light at the asphalt courts at the Domain, plus maintenance charges, would total £5/15/-. It was decided to erect lighting facilities, provided the permission of the other clubs sharing the cost of electricity charges at the Domain could be obtained, and to commence practices next Tuesday evening. The treasurer (Miss D. Undrill) re ported that when the cost of the installation of electric light had been met, all the funds in hand, including the loan from the Temuka Basketball Sub-Association, would be exhausted. The committee agreed to make a small levy on practice nights to defray the cost of lighting. It was decided that two teams compete at the Timaru basketball tournament on the King’s Birthday. VICTORIA LODGE Bro. 8. H. Lapthorn, N.G., presided over a good attendance at the fortnightly meeting of Victoria Lodge No. 18, 1.0.0. F. Three members were declared on the sick fund and two off. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £l4/6/8 was passed for payment. It was decided to play a card match wi n Manchester Unity Lodge next Lodge night. CRIBBAGE ASSOCIATION The fourth round of the Geraldine and District Cribbage Association’s competition was played on Tuesday evening with the following results:— Oddfellows 32 beat Citizens 19; Bowlers 28 beat Orari Bridge 24; South End 26 beat Raukapuka 25. In the competition for the shield, Raukapuka lead with 107 games, followed by Bowlers 104, Orari Bridge 101, Citizens 100, Oddfellows 98, and South End 97. In the pairs competition for the Williamson Memorial Cup, J. R. Lack and C. Stock (Bowlers) lead with 37 games, followed by L. P. Scott 'and J. Turton (Raukapuka) with 36 games.
