EXECUTIVE MEETS
NORTH END RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION A meeting of the executive of the North End Ratepayers and Improvement Association was held on Monday evening, there being present: Messrs G. H. Andrews (in the chair), F. Lewis, R. Watson, F. I. Washbourn, G. G. Lewis, E. Darroch, W. Lewis and the secretary, Mr A. M. Parker. Dealing with certain street improvements, the meeting considered the representations of a resident who pointed out that In White Street, which was of inconsiderable length, there were ten private garages, access to which was over a footpath that had neither kerbing, channelling or asphalting, and that much inconvenience was experienced by car owners in wet weather. It was claimed that the asphalting of the pathway was desirable in that it was used to a great extent by school children. Other representations were in regard to the need for improvement of the footpath of Marchweil Street, especially in the vicinity of its junction with Evans Street and the regrading and surfacing of Selwyn Street from Hobbs Street- corner to Luxmoore Road. It was decided that these matters be brought up for the consideration of the Works Committee of the Council. A resident of Luxmoore Road claimed that this area suffered in comparison with others in that while it was absorbed in the borough for the purpose of rating, it was outside the jurisdiction of the Municipal Electricity Department. It was decided to ascertain if any alteration in this respect could be achieved. The meeting expressed its appreciation of tlie very effective lighting now installed at the east end of White Street and decided to convey its thanks to the Department for this attention.
