Radical Labour celebrated the International May Day, in traditional fashion, with parades and mass meetings. For the first time since the war, the Radicals effected something of a “united front” with the Left Wing Socialists and the Communists and some units of the American Federation of Labour, marching together. The Right Wing Socialists, however, remained aloof. Mass labour demonstrations were held throughout France but they were very orderly, as the Left Parties were anxious not to prejudice the success of the second ballot at the elections.
