RAPE SEED

EXPERIMENT IN SOUTH CANTERBURY In an endeavour to prove that rape seed equal to the imported seed can be grown in South Canterbury, two farmers have this season carried out an experiment. In one instance the result has been made known to a representative of “The Timaru Herald,” and it has exceeded expectations. Certified seed from Massey College was secured. In all there was 201 b of seed, and this was sown on seven acres. It was put in in April last, was harrowed in the spring, and harvested last month. The yield was 42 bags, each containing 1801 b of seed. The method employed was exactly the same as in England, and the results have been most satisfactory.
