The New Zealand University Rubgy team defeated the combined Western Universities by 23 points to 8 in a fast, open game at Hanazono. Stace, Wild, Gillies and McAuliffe scored. Tricklebank, whose kicking was a feature of the game, converted all the tries and kicked a penalty goal. The New Zealand team was superior in all departments, though the players committed a number of Infringements. The New Zealand team was: Full-back: W. Tricklebank. Three-quarters: J. M. Watt, H. R. Wild, E. Grant. Five-eighths: J. D. Lewis, C. C. Gillies. Half-back: J. J. McAuliffe. Forwards: W. R. Laney, R. B. Burke, F. J. Wilson, D. O. Hudson. S. W. Simmers, L. S. Drake, J. O. Stace, S. G. Eade. The players are now spending a quiet time seeing the sights of Nara and Kyoto before the final test next Sunday. The team is enjoying the quiet and beautiful surroundings of the old capital after the heavy but delightful programme in Tokyo. Members of the team were pleased to receive the first home mail to-day.
