ROWING

TIMARU CLUB The semi-finals of the William Evans Memorial Double Sculls were rowed on Tuesday evening. Results: W. G. Woodward (s), A. C. Mitchell V. D. Wilson (s), R. Farrow. Both crews were rowing on terms from the end of the wharf and sprinted at the finish, Wilson just managing to reach the post two feet to the good. V. Hargreaves (s), J. Russell v. J. Mitchell (s), P. McLean. Hargreaves had a good lead at the harbour mouth. Witchell was a canvas behind at the end of the wharf. In a good finish Hargreaves won by half a length. The final was rowed last evening between V. Hargreaves and D. Wilson’s crews, the sea being rough, which caused Hargreaves to lose a lot of ground outside. Coming down the wharf Hargreaves picked up ground, but could not catch Wilson, who won by one and a half lengths.
