Mr G. Ohusono (Japan) is registered at the Dominion. Mr H. P. Thomson (Dunedin) is registered at the Grand. Mr H. W. Brodie (Montreal) is yislting Timaru, and is staying at the Grosvenor. Messrs G. F. Dunne, F. J. Sherwood, S. A. Pringle (Dunedin), and R. G. Todd (Christchurch) are registered at the Empire. Included in the guests at the Grosvenor are Messrs T. G. Roberts, G. Glennie, K. G. Begg (Wellington), E. A. Ferrier and S. Teale (Christchurch). Lieut.-Colonel F. P. Elwes, late of the Indian Medical Service, and Mrs Elwes, arrived at Wellington by the Monowai this week to spend a holiday in New Zealand. The Rev. E. S. Tuckwell, for a number of years minister of the Hanover Baptist Church, Dunedin, has aofpted a unanimous call to the Alberton Baptist Church, South Australia. Guests at the Dominion include Messrs D. Wrigley (Christchurch), H. A. Murison (Oamaru), A. Wolfe (Invercargill), D. R. Nevlll (Omakau), T. M. Dunlop (Dunedin), H. B. Osborn, H. Fairhall and A. C. McKenzie (Wellington). Canon Cooper, canon emeritus of Truro Cathedral and chancellor and canon residentiary of Truro Cathedral from 1919 to 1932, arrived at Auckland by the Matamata on Monday to spend a holiday in New Zealand with his son, who is farming at Kerikerl. Mr L. W. Spencer, who has been manager of the Invercargill and Bluff branches of the Union Steam Ship Company for 20 years, has arranged to retire at the end of this month. He will be succeeded by Mr P. L. Hodge, at present in charge of the Oamaru branch.
Mr A. C. Hall, of the Railway Workshops staff, Greymouth, has received notice of transfer to the Otahuhu Workshops, Auckland, as sub-foreman. Mr Hall is a member of the West Coast Rugby League, sole South Island selector, and one of the New Zealand selectors. Owing to the absence from New Zealand of Professors Denham and Riddet, a vacancy has occurred on the Dominion Research Council. This has been filled by the appointment of Mr J. W. Ranstead, of Matangi. Mr Hanstead is a graduate of Lincoln College, and is well-known for the research work he carried out on his property in connection with grassland management. The Minister of Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) began his official tour of the South Island on Tuesday, motoring from Blenheim to Hanmer, where he stayed the night. Mr Mason arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, and inspected the Magistrate’s Court, Supreme Court and other buildings under his department’s care. The Minister was to inspect similar buildings en route to Timaru where he was expected to arrive late last night. Mr Mason is to inspect buildings here before proceeding south.
