RIFLE SHOOTING
TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB On Saturday afternoon the Timaru Defence Rifle Club fired the usual weekly match which did not count for any aggregate and was only a sweepstake. The ranges were 500, 600 and 300 yards. At 500 some very good shooting was witnessed. There were two 34’s out of 35. They were Pres. W. Duncan and Rifleman F. Black. Duncan’s board was the better of the two, finishing with five bulls. It read as follows: 5,4,5,5,5,5,5—34. Black’s read 5,5,5,5,5,4,5 —34. The 33’s were Riflemen L. Murray, M. Johnston, J. M. Smith and C. Paine. At 600 there were three with 33, Riflemen Murray Paine and M. Johnston. Johnston was going for a very nice board and had to finish with a five to make a possible 34, but. was unlucky and only got a four, making him a 33. His board read: 4,5,5,5,5,5,4 —33. Paine’s board read: 5,5,4,5,5,4,5—33 Murray’s board read: 5.5,5,4,5,5,4—33. At 300 J. M. Smith made a nice 34 reading 5.5,4,5,5,5,5,—34. The prizes for the day were won as follows:—Of the rifle, C.
