ASHWICK FLAT I The January meeting of the AshI wick Flat Women’s Institute was hel i | in the school. All present stood for two j minutes out of respect for the late King and in sympathy with a fellow member, the Queen. Miss Whatman presided and welcomed visitors from Sherwood Downs and Christchurch and wished every one e. happy and prosperous New Year. A letter was read from InchbonnlcPoerua Institute our “link” on the West Coast and also one from our “link” in Hollygrove Newich, Sussex. The motto for the month was “Give to the world the best you have, and the best will come back to you.” The golden thread competition, “jumbled girls names” was won by Miss Whatman. After afternoon tea, Mrs A. B. Mackenzie very ably demonstrated tapestry and fancy embroidery stitches. Great interest was taken in the “finished” articles exhibited by Mrs Mackenzie who was accorded a vote of thanks. The competitions for the month re suited: Plain fruit cake, Miss Gallagher 1, Miss Whatman 2. Raspberry jam, Miss Whatman 1, Mrs E. iV. Allan 2. Bloom: Mrs W. Ross 1 (marigold), Mrs E. W. Allan 2 (single dahlia). Miss Gallagher was hostess for the afternoon.
