FALSE DOCTRINE

APPEAL AGAINST CONVICTION OF CLERGYMAN United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, January 26. The Rev. H. E. E. Hayes has asked for a new trial. It is understood that it will probably be a week before Archbishop Head reaches a decision in regard to the application. A message from Melbourne on December 24 stated that the Rev. H. E. E. Hayes, an Anglican minister of Memda, had been found guilty by the Ecclesiastical Court of charges of false doctrine, and “conduct disgraceful to a clergyman and productive of scandal and evil report. The Court called upon him to resign before January 20, otherwise he would be removed from his parish. The Court’s finding was delivered to Archbishop Head, who, it was stated, could exercise his prerogative of mercy by reducing the penalty.
