ABANDONED AFTER FIRE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright TOKIO, January 24. Fire on the British freighter Forthbridge is beyond control, off North Japan. The ship’s company of thirtytwo was taken off in lifeboats. The salvage ship Kahoku Maru arrived, but has not yet Sighted the lifeboats, and is unable to approach the Forthbrldge owing to the flames. A Japanese tor-pedo-boat is participating in the search. The Forthbridge is a steel vessel of 5140 tons gross register. She was built in 1928 by W. Dorford and Sons, Ltd., Sunderland, and is owned by the North of England Steam Ship Co., Ltd. A later message reports that the captain wirelessed: Have abandoned the gutted steamer; all were saved.
