PERSONAL Mrs R. Pinder and family, who have been holidaying at Winchester, have returned to Dunedin. Miss M. Moore, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs A. G. Hart, Rosewill, has returned to Winchester. Miss Mavis Gudsell, Winchester, is staying with her grandmother, Mrs Gudsell, Rosewill. Mr and Mrs H. Oldham, Winchester, and Mr W. J. Oldham, Christchurch, who have been spending a month’s holiday at Blenheim, are expected back home to-morrow. TENNIS The B. grade competition for the Temuka town and country tennis shield between the Winchester and St. Joseph’s Clubs resulted in a win for St. Joseph’s by 74 games to 69. MEMORIAL SERVICE The memorial service for the late King George V was held at St. John’s Church, Winchester on Sunday evening. A feature of the observance was the large congregation, in itself an eloquent tribute of universal love and esteem. The service was conducted by the Rev. C. L. Mountfort. At the close of the sermon the organist (Mrs W. J. Moore) played the Dead March in “Saul,” and the first verse of the National Anthem was sung. CAVE TENNIS CONTEST. PERSONAL. The Rev. A. Young of Timaru conducted the memorial service held at St. David’s Church on Sunday morning. Mr and Mrs James Little “Annandale,” and the Misses Lilian and Jauneta Hall are spending a camping holiday at Akaroa. Mrs R. Amyes, Motukaika, is spending a holiday in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs G. Moore and Mr Barwick, Christchurch, are the guests of Mrs A. Fenwick “Avoca." GENERAL. Two enthusiastic local anglers recently spent a week-end at Lake Alexandrina and enjoyed excellent fishing, landing some very fine fish. Members of the Football Club tendered a farewell smoke concert on Saturday to Messrs G. Dewar, A. Simpson, I. Simpson and J. Kay, who are leaving the district. Mr Guerin, president of the club, in explaining the object of the gathering, referred to the popularity and prowess of the guests on the football field and expressed regret at their departure and wished them all future success. His remarks were supplemented by Messrs A. Chant, T. Daly, D. Brosnahan and A. Young.
