PLEASANT POINT SALE

FAT LAMBS IMPROVE The fortnightly stock sale was held yesterday at Pleasant Point saleyards. Owing to harvesting operations, there was a small attendance of farmers. The outstanding feature of the sale was the good market for fat lambs. Fat cattle—About 30 head came forward, few of the entries being of prime quality. The sale showed no change, late rates being maintained in all sections. Values were:—Fat heifers, best £5 to £6/7/6, light £3 to £4/2/6; fat steers, medium £5 to £7; cows, best £6/7/6 to £B/7/6, medium £3/2/6 to £4/7/6; vealers to £2/11/-. Store cattle—A very small yarding of stores was forward, but values showed no change. Sales made were: —18months steers (ordinary colours) 35'to £2/11/-; empty cows to £2; bulls to £3/2/6. Dairy cattle—The entry of dairy cattle was small and few were of outstanding quality. Prices remained at rates in keeping with late rates. Sales were:—Cows in profit 25/- to £3/15/-. Pigs—Only two pens were forward, the sale being the equal of the previous market held at Pleasant Point. Two pens of slips sold from 12/- to 15/-. Fat sheep—Two races of fat sheep were offered to butchers and exporters. Values for butchers’ sheep remained unchanged, but exporters’ ewes improved by fully 1/- a head. Sales were:—Fat ewes, best 16to 17/7, medium 13/6 to 15/4, exporters 10 6 to 13/6; fat wethers, best 22/- to 23 7, medium 20 9 to 21/7. light 19/- to 20/-. Fat lambs—About 900 head of fat lambs were offered to exporters, the sale proving to be the best one of the year. All pens were sold, farmers being very gratified with the results obtained. The range of prices was:—Fat lambs, best 23/- to 25/7, medium 20'- to 22 '6. Store sheep—The store sheep sale was not so good as was anticipated, owing no doubt to many farmers being engaged in harvesting operations. Notwithstanding this fact, quite an amount of business was transacted, and few lines remained unsold at the end of the sale. Sales made were:—Small 2tooth X-bred wethers 13 4 to 14 4. m.s. lambs 15 7 to 18 2. wether lambs 15 6 to 16'6. 2-tooth 3-bred wethers 16/10, rape ewes 2/9 to 5/5.
