Jan. 31—11.6 a.m. CONDITIONS IN TIMARU It was an almost perfect week-end. Saturday, clear and sunny with a light breeze blowing was all that could be desired, while yesterday conditions were similar, except for an occasional southerly gust and clouded sky in the afternoon. The records at the Timaru Gardens on Saturday were:— Barometer, 29.52. Min. temp, on grass, 45.5. Wind—E.N.E.2. Sunshine 12.3 hours. Max. temp., 72.8. The records at the Timaru Gardens yesterday were: Barometer, 29.64. Min. temp, on grass, 48.8. Wind, 5.E.5. Rainfall—nil. Rainfall to date this year, I.3lins. Rainfall to date last year, I.B7ins. Sunshine, 7.1 hours. Sunshine to date this year, 118.9 hrs. Maximum temp. 70.2. IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton: One of the brightest days for some time was experienced in Ashburton on Saturday. The sun shone from early morning in an almost clear sky, while there was only a slight breeze. Geraldine: Saturday, air temperatures, min. 46, max. 80, at 9 a.m. 70. Bright and fine. Yesterday: Air temperatures, min. 49, max. 83, at 9 a.m. 76. Bright and fine; cloudy later. Temuka: Saturday was warm and fine. The thermometer reached 72 degrees in the shade while the lowest recording was 42 degrees. Yesterday morning there was a light nor’west wind until 11 o’clock when it changed to the south, but dropped altogether during the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees and the minimum 46. The glass last evening was rising. Waimate: 24 hours ended 9 a.m. Sunday (to 9 a.m. Saturday in parentheses)—Barometer 29.90 rising (30.05 steady); thermometer highest 73.2 (68.2), lowest 48.5 (45.8); wind gauge, miles run in previoucs 24 hours, 80 (75); bright sunshine 10 hours 40 minutes (8 hours 25 minutes). Saturday was bright and sunny. Yesterday was cloudy with a cool south-east wind.
