Imperial Airways estimate that approximately one-third of the mail destined for Australia and New Zealand was lost in the Khartoum, which carried the early bags, but the mail posted within about 18 hours of the closing time, which is the bulk of it, is safe, as it was carried by the sister plane. Divers recovered the bodies of Mrs Horsman, Miss Eckford (steward), and the Italian Tartegllone. It will probably be impossible to raised the wreck. The hawsers and the tug’s crane have already broken twice. The Postmaster-General has been advised that the City of Khartoum carried a portion of the New Year’s mail for Australia, comprising one bag for each of the Australian capitals. No mention was made of any mall for New Zealand being lost. SALVAGE CONTINUED DECISION TO ABANDON WRECK United Press Assoclatlon—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 5, 7.30 p.m.) CAIRO, January 4. Another body has been recovered. The bodies were buried to-day, heavy seas preventing the search for the bodies of Garrett and other victims. It has been decided to abandon the plane, from which the divers removed the engines and most of the mail.
