result of peace ballot By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 17. The results of the peace ballot conducted in the University Colleges of the country under the auspices of the New Zealand University Students’ Association, have now been announced. They indicate a more or less marked tendency towards pacifism, though this is more apparent in some colleges than in others and Otago, in particular, is inclined to militarism. The organisers secured a 49 per cent, vote throughout the University. Auckland hah a 32 per cent, vote, Canterbury 53 per cent., Otago 37 per cent., Victoria 73 per cent., and Massey 100 per cent. The number'of students at Auckland is 800, at Canterbury 980, at Otago 1139, at Victoria 730 and at Massey 54. To the question “would you resist without question a threatened invasion of New Zealand?” 62.36 per cent, answered “yes,” 28.66 per cent, “np," and 9.09 per cent, “doubtful," To the question “would you take part in a war to assist Britain no matter what the cause or occasion to which Britain had committed herself?” 28.19 per cent- answered “yes," 59-19 per cent, “no,” and 12-61 per cent, “doubtful.” In the event of war 37.23 would enlist or urge their friends to do so, 56.15 per cent, would not, and 16.62 per cent, were doubtful.
