Later the police fired over the heads of the students. The Peking correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” says that Japanese military reinforcements are expected following the students’ demonstrations which occurred yesterday. During the first meeting of the Hopei-Chakar Political Council, the students demonstrated, yelling, “Down with the Japanese” and carrying banners with anti-Japanese slogans. The students tranversed the city scattering leaflets bearing the inscription, “Traitors hold our country. Rise and overthrow the Japanese imperialists.” They stoned police and firemen who were ordered to disperse them. One girl is reported to have died from a bayonet wound in the peck. These are the biggest anti-Japanese demonstrations by students in the history of Peking. The Japanese have warned the Chinese authorities that if they are unable to keep order, the Japanese must do so.
