SCHOOL TENNIS TOURNAMENT At the annual tennis championships of the Orari School for the Herbert Smith memorial cups Mrs W. Watson, Miss Southgate and Messrs J. N. Reid and W. E. Cook acted as umpires. Boys First round—Monty Vemall beat Colin McKenzie 6-1, Norman Hobbs beat Peter Burke 6-0, Leslie Vemall beat Ted Hughes 6-4. Second round —Douglas Watson beat Roy Humphries by default, Monty Vernall beat Lawrence Patrick 6-4, Norman Hobbs beat Leslie Vernall 6-2, Eric Worner beat Hector Henderson 6-1. Third round—Monty Vemall beat Douglas Watson 6-4, Norman Hobbs beat Eric Worner 6-3. Final—Monty Vemall beat Norman Hobbs 6-2. Girls First round—Othle Brenton beat Josephine McAteer 6-0, Avis Austin beat Margaret Cairns 6-0. Final —Othle Brenton beat Avis Austin 6-3.
