HOSPITAL BUILDING

REPORT BY COMMITTEE The building committee of the South Canterbury Hospital Board presented the following report to the monthly meeting of the Board yesterday:— “Dr. Shore. Inspector of Hospitals, Mr Reid, Technical Inspector, and Mr P. W. Rule were present at a meeting of the committee. “Waimate Hospital: Dr. Shore explained that he had the previous day visited Waimate and after consultation with members and officials of the Waimate Hospital Committee, the lay out of the new theatre block had been agreed upon, and there should be no further hitch in respect thereto. There might be some slight alterations required in the specifications. “Nurses’" Home, Timaru Hospital: Formal sanction was received from the Local Government Loans Board to borrow £IO.OOO for the Nurses’s Home, and Ministerial consent was also received. The committee instructed the architects to immediately call for tenders for this work, but until the consent of the Governor-General in Council is given, we are unable, under Section 10 (2) of the Local Government Loans Board Act, to take any steps to raise the loan. “Patients’ Block: Dr. Shore informed the committee that the lay out of the block had been approved, and that only minor alterations were to be made The architects were instructed to proceed with the completion of the plans, and it will probably be at least two months before the plans are finished. “Kitchen and Power House Blocks: Dr. Shore desired some alterations in the sketch plans, and fresh plans embodying the alterations will probably be forwarded to the Department during this week.” The chairman of the Board (Mr E. Macdonald) said that tenders for the Nurses’s Home closed on Friday next, and he sugested that a meeting of the committee be held that afternoon. Members would understand, however, that no definite action could be taken until the Order-in-Council authorising the raising of the loan, was issued. Mr Dash remarked that Dr. Shore and Mr Reid had met them in a most friendly way. There had been no red tape about them, and they had been genuinely anxious to help the Board in every way. The report was adopted.
