WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

WAITOHI Mrs M. Nolan presided at the monthly meeting of the Waitohi Women's Institute. Correspondence regarding the next half-yearly meeting at Geraldine was read and it was decided to enter into the competitions. It was arranged to hold the annual picnic at Caroline Bay on January 3. The winning design for the institute banner was submitted by Mrs H. Sewell, and arrangements were made to commence working it immediately. Mrs W. Moore and Miss Myra Moore acted as judges. Impromptu speeches and competitions filled in the remainder of the afternoon, at the conclusion of which the president wished all members a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. A competition for Christmas novelties resulted. —Senior: Mrs H. Sewell 1, Mrs Pearce 2 and equal 3. Mrs Johnson equal 3. Junior: Miss Jean Pagan 1,2 and 3. Hostesses were Mesdames Milne and Stratford, Misses Myra Moore and V. Cowles.
