Mr A. F. Blackburn, of Whangarei, who has t:on district valuer for North Auckland during the last nine years, has been promoted to the position of chief supervisor of the native land development scheme, with headquarters in Wellington.

A Press Association message from London says that Earl Harewood has been installed as Pro Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England in succession to Lord Ampthiil. The Duke of Connaught has been nominated Grand Master for the 36th successive -car.

Reference to the death of Dr. D. Dryden was made at a. meeting of the Timaru Horticultural Society last night by the chairman (Mr G. E. Knowles), who said that Dr. Dryden was a very old member of the Society, and a vicepresident for over 20 years. A motion of condolence was carried in silence.
